Hear Me - Imagine Dragons

Thunder rumbled above them. Everything was dark and silent for a few seconds... and then bass resounded again. They couldn’t breathe, their mind was racing. Why was this happening? Black trees loomed all around them, a kind of shield form lightning bolts. Or maybe a prison that held them, locked away from the whole world. They could feel electricity in their fingertips, raindrops showering them with a welcome coldness.
Their chest was really heavy; pain, emptiness and peace chasing each other. Their breath caught all the time. Sometimes they managed to stop hyperventilating even before it could affect them much, but then they felt worse. Maybe they were overreacting, maybe everything was fine with them and they had no reason to feel the way they did. Maybe they weren’t even hyperventilating if they could stop themselves. But then, if they weren’t, why did they feel like they couldn’t breathe even though air was coming into their lungs?
The next lightning came, a sudden rush of clearness that made the black trees a little bit greener. Then a couple of seconds of silence and the sky crumbled again. And this time they screamed. They screamed with all they had left, everything being poured into that scream. Both things unsaid and things regretted. All of it, just pouring out of them in a long, deep shriek. But their voice was muffled by thunder, lost in the stormy winds.

Can nobody hear me?
I got a lot that’s on my mind.
I cannot breathe,
Can you hear it, too?
